Symbol Placement using Key In

Electrical discipline offers a way to use a key-in command to insert a symbol in the drawing. A well defined key in command with valid attributes allows placing a desired symbol quickly without interacting several user interfaces. It functions as custom symbol placement tools that are more suitable in some instances over standard symbol placement tools. Key in function allows placing a desired symbol defined for a subtype, rotation and height attributes supplied with the key in command.

You could use the key-in command e.g. to create Screen Menus.

Note: Ensure the Electrical discipline is Loaded before you proceed with symbol placement Key In.
  1. Open the Key-In window by selecting Ribbon: Primary > Key-In or by pressing <F9>.


    Key in the syntax, BESSYMTB followed by attributes: <Symbol Number> <Subtype number> <Rotation> <Height>.
  2. Press <Enter> to activate the key-in. Key-in BESSYMTB S=08001050001 T=10001 R=90 H=3.0 has the following command attributes:
    • Command BESSYMTB
    • Symbol number, e.g.: S=08001050001
    • Subtype number, e.g.: T=10001
    • Rotation angle: R=90
    • Installation height: H=3.0
  3. When executed, the parameters supplied with the Key-In relate to respective function of selecting the symbol and setting the parameters, as below:
    • Symbol number S=08001050001 relates to the symbol number in the symbol library:


    • Subtype number T=10001 relates to the subtype number in the symbol library subtype definition:


    • Rotation angle R=90 and Installation height H=3.0 relate to the symbol Rotation and Height settings in the symbol manager dialog:


The key-in command BESSYMTB S=08001050001 T=10001 R=90 H=3.0 places a Single Recept Outlet from ANSI library with subtype GFI and rotation 90° at 3 feet height in a selected level.
